Up and Mobile (almost there)...
Hey Fam and Friends,
Belated Happy Father's Day to all of the fathers (old and new) out there)! We hope you had a good one. Hasan spent his first (official) Father's Day watching RaKhem while I was at a Day Spa enjoying a birthday massage (yes, I am 29 now). Hasan will be enjoying his belated Father's Day gift next week (after I get paid). Don't worry...since it is late, we will make it up to him (Ra and I promise). We did, however, go to a barbeque that night to visit with some friends in Los Angeles. So, it wasn't a complete wash for him.
Enough about us...I will get straight to what you came here for...RaKhem (we are well aware that you do not come here for Hasan and I). Don't worry, we are not offended! Ra has continued to amaze us. As the title of this message states, Ra has mastered crawling and now has moved on to a more challenging fete...walking! Now, he is an expert "cruiser". He can now scale any piece of furniture and walk while holding on to it. He can stand without assistance for about 15-20 seconds at a time and if you are standing still he will take this as an opportunity to see how climb-able you are (I know that is not a word, but work with me).
Ra can clap his hands to music and give you a high-five (actually a low-five). He can bounce to the beat of a song. He can repeat the crazy sounds we make when we are playing with him and he has a great sense of humor. But don't be fooled by this smiling cherub, he can be quite ornery and extremely focused (almost to a fault). It takes a lot to distract him from what he wants. For example, he has officially sworn off of baby food. Don't even try to open a jar of food in front of him while you are eating real food. Let's just say that you will be sharing your meal! So, I (des) had to be slick and mix his jarred food with rice or mashed potatoes. This way he believes he is eating grown-up food. But don't be fooled, this boy can eat. He has had smothered chicken, baked chicken, mashed potatoes, rice and gravy, corn, carrots, bananas, corn bread and collard green juice, and much, much more. Told you he can eat!
The eating would explain why Ra has grown to be about 32 inches tall and 22lbs. He wears a size 6 (or 6.5) shoe and we just bought him some summer jumpsuits that were for 24 month olds. People...he is not even a year old yet!!! It is amazing to see him shoot up like a weed, give kisses and hugs, and bounce to the music. RaKhem is our little man! Until next time...
Peace & Luv,
Des, Hasan, and Ra

and, it seems, the big mickie-fickie genes travel on that Y chromosome.
